Who’s going to Vegas in December?

I’m going to Vegas In December. Running the half. Just booked everything.

Also…….signed up for the LA Marathon in March!!!!

Las Vegas RNR Half Marathon

I really really want to do this. I just keep holding out for cheaper flights from DC. I should just do it, right?

Random thoughts barfed out in text form

Random #1: Water - So I’ve definately increased my water intake since my last post. Not where I should be with it, but definately not borderline dehydrated anymore. Baby steps. Thank you to all who offered suggestions.

Random #2: Marathon Training - Ok, so I’m freaking out because my marathon is roughly 16 weeks away and I haven’t really been training. I’ve picked up running and overall exercising more in the last few weeks, but I need to follow the training schedule. I should have done an 18 week one, but I am going to do a 16 week one that I found, but I’m still freaking out. I feel I need more time because I’m not where I want to be right now. Would someone like to sign up to email, text, Tumblr message, telephone, snail mail, IM, or come over and yell at me to keep me on schedule? ha ha

Random #3: &#^@ my leg! - My left calf keeps cramping slightly when I run. It’s annoying and I want to punch it. I know, I know. I need to stretch. Ugh.

Random #4: Farmer’s tan - So I went to a baseball game and I didn’t wear sunscreen because I’m an idiot and forgot it. My normal skin tone is something close to that of milk. Ok, maybe slightly darker. Anyway, the tops of my thighs and parts of my arms got burned and have now healed into a nice tan. Except for the fact that the rest of me is a shade slightly darker than snow. So I’m debating getting a spray tan. I hate tanning (we should accept all colors, including freakishly pale!) but I also hate being dual colors. Ugh.

Now, excuse me while I drink a glass of wine.

I’m really bad at…

…drinking enough water. The thing is that, for the most part, I only drink water and green tea. I usually only get water in restaurants, although I will get an Arnold Palmer (iced tea / lemonade combo) if available because it is the best damn drink ever. I rarely, as in I can count on one hand the number of times in a year rarely, drink soda. I never was into it and carbonated beverages make my stomach feel like I drank pieces of glass. So, point being that when I do drink something, it is usually water, it’s just that I never make an effort to drink unless I am borderline clinically dehydrated. How do you remember to drink enough?

Runners aren’t afraid of carbs. Homemade pasta salad. Oh yeah. (Whole wheat pasta though of course.)

Marathon training…

…begins this week. I WILL actually follow it this time. Anytime you think you can easily take an hour off your marathon time means you didn’t do it right the first time around! Ha ha

I’ve decided that….

I’m taking my talents to South Beach.

No. That didn’t work out too well for someone else, so that’s not what I decided.

I’ve decided that I really enjoy running w/out music. I was forced to do it during the Charlottesville Half in April and had the best running experience to date. I thought it was a fluke and was only good because I was in a race. I did it during the Lawyer’s Have Heart 10K 5K and again yesterday on a normal daily run. It is way better. I don’t worry about what songs come on and flipping through when it inevitably plays Pearl Jam over and over. (I admit that they are my favorite band and about 70% of my iPod but they don’t make for great running music.) I just concentrate on running and taking in my surroundings and how my body feels. I end up paying less attention to time and stop obsessing about if I feel bad and if I won’t make it as far as I want to. It is really refreshing and I recommend everyone try it.

(Ok, I actually wouldn’t mind being in South Beach. Miami vs. DC….sorry DC but beach always wins out.)

I’ve been M.I.A. both to my blog and to running since the Philly ten miler in early May. Life just got in the way. Sooooo, fast forward…….

On Saturday I rant the Lawyers Have Heart 10K 5K in Georgetown in DC. This was my first ever race last year and I said I’d never run it again because it was so hot. Everyone who has ever run it has said the same thing: that you almost die of heat stroke. However, I was out there again this year because my company (an accounting firm, not a law firm, go figure) was the presenting sponsor and gave us free race entries. Free race entries! Count me in!

It’s actually a fun race with generally about 3,000 - 5,000 people in an out and back course. It benefits the American Heart Association. The law firms all have shirts made up for their employees and some of them are pretty funny. The back of one said “I am legally entitled to Gatorade”. Ah, law humor. Better than accounting humor…our shirts just had my company name on it.

This year the 10K turned into a 5k about two hours before the start due to the heat. Funny thing is that it was not as hot or humid as last year. However, I was not keeping up on my training (sadly…bye bye half marathon shape, hello struggling at a 5k shape), so I was kind of relieved. BUT this was exactly what I needed to kick my butt into gear and get to training for October’s marathon.

I finished in a respectable 33:33. Not bad for not having run at all in the last two weeks and barely at all the last month. Plus, all threes. I couldn’t have done that if I tried. ha ha

Oh, and, I missed the half marathon that I was supposed to run June 4th since I recognized that I was in no shape for it. I was bummed about missing out on a medal, however, Lawyers Have Heart actually gave out medals! I didn’t even realize, even after I finished. You apparently had to go a block past the finish line (really?). I grabbed one later one just as they were closing up shop. Yay for medals!

No Race Photo for You

I was looking at photos of me from the race this weekend. Who are those people who look good in race photos? What is their secret? My face swells up like a balloon during long runs and it’s quite unbecoming. I look like I was living out in the wild for three months. It’s just not right, so I will spare you from having to see them. You’re welcome.

I haven’t really gone through my Tumblr dashboard much in the last week or two. So I’m going through now and I realized that if you’re posting has a picture of a cat, there is a 93% chance I will like it. I now live in fear of becoming a crazy old cat lady. Someone please stop me when I get to the point of knitting my cat sweaters. A line must be drawn somewhere!
